Branding is how the world sees a business. A strong company brand relates to it's target audience through emotional attributes - peaceful, energetic, strength, organized, etc. To create a strong brand, envision the emotional attribute(s) to portray and use that as your base to design from.
P.S. - The more focused and simple a logo can be, the better.... just think Apple, Nike, Coke
